In addition to teaching students collaborative medicine, the Barry University Physician Assistant Program promotes professional growth and lifelong learning. It encourages clinical training opportunities for a variety of patient demographics in a technologically advanced setting. Through the program, students can acquire the skills necessary to address the healthcare demands of modern society.
The goal of the Barry University Physician Assistant Program is to develop physician assistants who are moral, compassionate, and well-prepared. A portion of your training as a PA student will be in underprivileged and marginalized communities, with a focus on primary care. Additionally, the program aims to equip you with the statistical and scientific research design understanding you need to evaluate and critically analyze medical literature.

Program for Physician Assistants at Barry University:
- Makes use of cutting-edge technology to deliver educational training using interactive videoconferencing (IAV).
- Medical Spanish is taught to all students for 45 hours.
- Offers the chance to complete clinical rotations in underprivileged or diverse populations.
- Has two campuses with a varied student body.
- Has close ties to Miami and St. Petersburg’s community hospitals and health groups.
Program Attributes
- 28-month program duration
- Each cohort consists of 100 students: 24 at the St. 76 at the Miami Shores area and one in Petersburg.
- Thanks to interactive videoconferencing technology, students can watch lectures from any location and ask instructors questions during live in-person lectures.
- The technology allows lecturers to appear as though they are live on both campuses, even though they may be delivering from anyone.

- The program begins in August.
- Candidates who have earned a Master of Clinical Medical Science (MCMSc) degree are eligible to sit for the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE). Credits total: 124Fall 18th, Didactic Year 1
- Spring 22 of Didactic Year One
- Clinical Year 2 Fall-19, Clinical Year 2 Spring-18, Clinical Year 2 Summer-12, Advanced Didactic Semester Fall-16, and Didactic Year 1 Summer-19
- In-person attendance is required.
Accreditation
The Barry University Physician Assistant Program has been awarded Accreditation-Continued status by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). When an already certified program complies with the ARC-PA Standards, it is accorded this accreditation status.
Accreditation is in force until the program shuts down or leaves the accreditation process or until accreditation is revoked due to noncompliance with the Standards. The ARC-PA’s subsequent validation evaluation of the program is scheduled for March 2026. Continued adherence to the ARC-PA policy and Accreditation Standards is required for the review date. We provide a friendly and professional graduate learning atmosphere, regardless of whether you are transferring directly from undergraduate to graduate school or have been out of school for a while.
Because of the small class sizes, there are opportunities to form close bonds with classmates and receive a great deal of individualized attention from your professors.

Admissions Requirements
- The applicant who is accepted into the Physician Assistant Program will possess the following:
A bachelor’s degree in any area from an accredited university
- A total GPA of 3.0 or higher, together with a science GPA
- Completed two courses totaling six credits in general/inorganic chemistry.
- Completed one course for three credits in organic chemistry or biochemistry.
- Completed two lab-based courses totaling eight credits in human anatomy and physiology.
- Exercise science, environmental engineering, and kinesiology won’t be allowed.
The combination of Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II with laboratories or Human Anatomy and Physiology with lab will not be considered.
- Finished four semester hours of microbiology coursework, including one lab course.
- I finished one course and three more semester hours of biological science. General biology, zoology, human genetics, histology, and cell/molecular biology are all acceptable subjects.
- Completed two courses totaling at least six semester hours in the social or behavioral sciences. For the prerequisite of behavioral science, only psychology, sociology, and human growth and development are accepted. Courses in criminology, anthropology, and the humanities are not permitted.
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) cannot be substituted with the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT).
- Candidates must retake the GRE and submit more recent results if their matriculation GRE results are older than five years. Before applying, GRE results must be forwarded straight to the
- University via ETS to program code 0634 and institutional code 5053. Applications will be placed in pending status until official GRE results are obtained. The deadline for submitting GRE results is 30 business days following the Admissions Office’s notification.
- At this time, CASPER and PA-CAT are strongly advised; they will be necessary in subsequent application cycles.
- submitted certified college transcripts from every university to CASPA for verification (prerequisite credits beyond ten years will not be considered);
- Submitted three recommendation letters from academicians, clinical colleagues, and clinical work supervisors. References from a PA are given extra weight;
- It is very advised that you provide proof of previous medical experience.
- Fulfilled the technical and professional requirements of the program.
Before applying, candidates must have finished all needed coursework with a C or above. Applications with unfinished coursework—including labs—will not be taken into consideration. Regardless of professional experience or educational background, there are no exceptions or waivers allowed for the required science requirements.
Acceptance requires an interview, which is only offered upon the Admissions Committee’s request. Before the interview, the Committee highly advises that all documentation be completed.

Preceptors
Working in physician-supervised practices is a component of the clinical training for PA students. Barry University relies on the kindness of practicing doctors who take on the role of clinical preceptors and allow our students to visit their clinics in order to fulfill this component of PA training. By volunteering to be a clinical preceptor, you will be giving students the chance to expand their knowledge and hone their clinical reasoning and diagnostic abilities.
Students enrolled in Barry University’s demanding 28-month Physician Assistant Program are prepared for a Master of Clinical Medical Science degree. After a year of didactic and hands-on training, our students will arrive at your clinic with a strong foundation.
Following a year of clinical rotations, Barry PA students proceed to a final three-month didactic phase that equips them with the analytical skills required to read and comprehend medical literature, as well as a thorough understanding of scientific research design and statistics. Under your guidance, they will get invaluable clinical experiences that will help them finish their studies at Barry University.
