Nine hundred years of history
Alma Mater Studiorum spans nine centuries, starting in 1088, which is traditionally considered the year the Studium of Bologna was established, and continuing through the busy Middle Ages, the eclectic Renaissance, the modern era’s stagnation, and its resurgence in the present-day.In the Western world, this is the oldest university. There are thirty-one departments at the University of Bologna.
In addition, there are eleven interdepartmental research and/or training facilities and seven interdepartmental research centers. Alma Mater Studiorum
Ninety-eight libraries and facilities offer bibliographic and documentary services for professional, cultural, teaching, research, and educational endeavors. The 15 museums and collections of the University Museum Network are devoted to different fields.
Eight thousand five hundred twenty-six international students are among the 96,984 students selected from the University of Bologna (2022–2023 academic year). In Bologna, Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna, and Rimini, 1,036,109.13 square meters are devoted to recreational and educational activities.
In 2022–2023, 3,604 University of Bologna students studied abroad, and 3,250 international students participated in exchange programs. Alma Mater Studiorum
In the 2023–2024 academic year, 260 degree programs will be available, including 104 first-cycle, 142 second-cycle, and 14 single-cycle programs. Of the 107 international degree programs they offer, 89 are taught in English.
Additionally available are 94 first- and second-level Professional Master’s Programs, 59 Specialisation Schools, and 51 PhD Programs (2022–23 a.y.). Alma Mater Studiorum
The University of Bologna employs 6,617 individuals, including 3,382 teaching staff members and 3,235 professional staff members.
The Italian Ministry of Universities and Research has funded 11 Departments of Excellence since January 2023.
More than 780 of our research projects have received national funding, more than 570 have received regional and local support, and the EU has sponsored more than 670.
The Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) authorized 28 projects.
There are 800 registered patents and vegetable varieties and 58 spin-offs and start-ups currently operating and authorized.
